Activity Details

The Lisbon Coffee Tasting is a guided sensory workshop where you’ll learn to taste and evaluate specialty coffee like a pro. Here’s how the experience typically unfolds:

Welcome and Introduction
You’ll arrive at a specialty coffee shop in the heart of Lisbon, where a passionate coffee expert will greet you. The session begins with a brief introduction to the world of specialty coffee, explaining what makes it different from commercial coffee and the journey it takes from farm to cup.

Exploring Aromas & Flavors
Next, you’ll engage your sense of smell. You’ll be guided through an aromatic exercise to identify different scent families found in coffee — from floral and fruity to nutty and spicy. This is the first step in training your palate for the tasting ahead.

Guided Tasting Session (Cupping)
This is the main event! You’ll participate in a “cupping,” the standardized method for tasting coffee. You’ll sample several different high-quality coffees from various origins, learning how to slurp the coffee to aerate it and spread it across your palate. The expert will help you identify and describe what you’re tasting — notes of citrus, berries, chocolate, or caramel — as well as its acidity, body, and aftertaste.

Learning and Q&A
Throughout the experience, you’ll learn about different coffee processing methods, the impact of roasting on flavor, and tips for brewing better coffee at home. The session concludes with a relaxed Q&A, where you can ask all your burning questions about coffee.
