What to Do in Lisbon in August 2026 – Your Sun-Drenched, Music-Filled Summer Guide
Looking for Things To Do in Lisbon in August 2026? August in Lisbon has a different rhythm. The city feels sunnier, slower, and more local in some neighborhoods, while riverside areas, beaches, rooftops, museums, and summer festivals stay full of life. It is a great month for travelers who want warm evenings, open-air culture, and a mix of sightseeing with relaxed summer energy.
Here is our guide to what to do in Lisbon in August 2026 – with ideas for culture lovers, food lovers, and anyone who wants to enjoy the city at its summer best.
August is one of the hottest months in Lisbon, which means it is best to plan your days around the light. Start early, slow down in the hottest afternoon hours, and save walks, viewpoints, concerts, and riverfront dinners for later in the day. The best Lisbon days in August usually follow a simple pattern: sightseeing in the morning, a museum or lunch break during the hottest hours, a slower late afternoon, and then a sunset viewpoint, concert, or dinner outside.
Good August viewpoints – best visited later in the day when the light softens and the city starts to cool – include Miradouro de Santa Catarina, Miradouro da Senhora do Monte, and Miradouro de São Pedro de Alcântara.
One of Lisbon’s standout cultural events of the summer, Jazz em Agosto returns for its 42nd edition. Known for adventurous contemporary jazz in a beautiful garden setting, the festival spans the Gulbenkian’s Grande Auditório, Auditório 2, and open-air amphitheater, offering 14 concerts in total. If you are in Lisbon in the first third of August, this is one of the strongest reasons to plan an evening around Gulbenkian.

A national public holiday. While Lisbon does not host massive street parties for this day (unlike the June Santos Populares), it is when many locals head to the beaches of Cascais, Estoril, or Costa da Caparica. Expect a relaxed, holiday atmosphere in the city, though some smaller shops and family-run restaurants may be closed.
