We will glad organize Tile Painting Workshop Lisbon for you!
Your journey begins in a welcoming artisan studio in Lisbon. Guided by skilled local artists or ceramic experts, you’ll get an introduction to the fascinating history of azulejos – from their Moorish roots to their golden age in the 17th and 18th centuries, and their place in modern Portuguese design.
Tile and ceramics studio, founded by ceramist Ana Dominguez, aiming to introduce and teach students the art of Portuguese tile-making and contemporary ceramics.
After a short demonstration, you’ll choose your own design. You can either replicate a historical tile pattern or create something entirely original – a flower, a geometric shape, or even a small Lisbon scene. Don’t worry if you’re not an artist – the instructors are there to help guide your creativity and ensure you enjoy the process.
Using traditional techniques and underglaze paints, you’ll hand-paint your tile on raw ceramic. Once finished, your artwork is glazed and kiln-fired by the workshop staff. Although you won’t take your tile home on the same day due to firing time, we offer international shipping or allow you to return in a few days to pick it up.
Let your creativity flourish and take home your very own piece of Portugal!

The Tile Painting Workshop Lisbon is a hands-on.
You’ll start with a warm welcome at a cozy artisan studio. The instructor, usually a skilled local artist or ceramicist, will give a brief introduction to the history of azulejos. Next, you’ll choose a design. You can either copy a traditional Portuguese pattern (like floral motifs, baroque frames, or marine symbols) or create your own. Don’t worry if you’re not confident in your drawing skills — pre-drawn stencils are available for guidance.
Once your artwork is complete, the studio staff will apply a transparent glaze and fire the tile in a kiln at high temperatures.
Tiles usually take 2–4 days to be ready. You can pick yours up later or have it shipped home as a personal souvenir of your Lisbon adventure.
